SCCI began operations in the Twin Cities of Hydrabad/Secundrabad region of Andhra Pradesh, part of the poor slums of India. Over the last 9 years, SCCI has continued to work in regions of semi urban and rural including all the slum areas. These regions have significant numbers of poor who are in some business activity, laborers or marginal farmers drawing a livelihood from subsistence agriculture. The income is not enough to provide their families with basic necessities like nutritious food, healthcare and education. SCCI provide them loans to enable them to involve/improve income generating activities like agriculture, trade, business and services.
SCCI currently targets women because they are the most dependable and they tend to use resources more productively. Our promoter strongly feels that women are natural leaders because of their quick adoptability (They are born in one environment and get married to a totally different environment and ultimately become the head of the new family). Social science research has shown that women tend to undertake small, manageable activities rather than risky ventures and they invest the majority of their income into the household and for their children.
